Fatima N. Mirza, MD, MPH

Chief Dermatology Resident, Brown University

Dr. Mirza is the chief dermatology resident at Brown University and a global thought leader for the identification of clinically meaningful use cases for AI. She studied at Harvard College before obtaining an MPH at Cambridge University and her MD at Yale. Her work on AI has been published in JAMA Surgery, Nature's npj Digital Medicine, The Lancet's eClinicalMedicine, and The New England Journal of Medicine's NEJM AI.

She has been an invited speaker for National Institutes of Health's national clinical trial grand rounds and the U.N. General Assembly, among other venues. At Brown University Health, she led the initiative to transform the health system's universal surgical consent form from a college reading level to the average American reading level (6th grade) using an LLM, an achievement that was discussed at the White House AI Select Committee. Most recently, her work on utilizing AI voice replication technology to restore speech for patients has been covered by the New York Times, The Associated Press, and other major media outlets.

 

Usama Syed, MD, FAAD

Chief Executive Officer, OpenClinic (formerly Stratum)

Dr. Usama Syed is a physician-scientist and Founder & CEO of OpenClinic (formerly Stratum https://www.heystratum.com). He completed his medical training at Imperial College London in the UK, where he was awarded the Student Award for Outstanding Achievement and graduated with Honors, before moving to the US to pursue specialty training in dermatology. He carried out residency training at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York under the tutelage of world leaders in complex dermatological conditions such as psoriasis, eczema and severe acne.

Dr. Syed also has a key interest in cosmetic dermatology, having authored book chapters on the use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for hair loss, and also the safe use of injectable fillers for facial rejuvenation. Alongside his interest in medical/cosmetic dermatology, Dr. Syed has been an active participant in the healthtech field. He has produced a dermatology education app to teach medical students/doctors skincare diagnostics, and also has an active presence across social media platforms where he produces informational content on skincare/ skin disease.
